ALEKS Placement Update:

Writing Placement Update:

It may take up to seven days between when a student completes a writing sample to when results are evaluated and then updated in LOCUS; so students who took completed the assessment yesterday, for example, may not yet have results.  If a student completed the assessment and is awaiting their results, remind them to utilize the schedule change website once their assessment has been completed.  Recommend that the student add a core class in the meantime as a place holder.  The master list of students who have been prompted to take the Writing Placement Assessment has been attached to this message, for reference.

Rotations:

Maroon = 8:00-9:00 a.m.

Grey = 10:20-11:20 a.m.

Gold = 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

All groups/space allocations are the same as Day 1.  Snacks are available on the island.

Specifically Promote UCLR 100

We have more seats available in UCLR 100 than in any other Core area – we want to avoid lopsided availability as we look ahead to transfer orientations.

Enroll up to 19 per section in UCWR 100

The stated limit for each section is 18, but we can add one per class.  Do not exceed 19.

Foreign Languages/Performing Arts:

Faculty from these units will be available in the center of the IC for student consultation on placement-related questions.  If a student has prior instruction/experience in French, German, or Spanish, they should take the language placement exam online *before* registering for a course (they can use the schedule change website to request the appropriate language course after they complete the exam).  Students should not default to registering for 101 courses, which are intended for learners with no prior experience in the language.  For all other languages besides French, German, or Spanish, they should consult with Modern Languages faculty on Day 2 for placement advice.

Taking ALEKS on Day 2:

This is for students who did not realize for whatever reason that they should have taken ALEKS on Day 1.  Please direct any student wishing to take ALEKS to the 3rd floor of the IC at 2 p.m. on Day 2.  To be clear, students who took ALEKS on Day 1 are *not* eligible to retake it on Day 2 to improve their score – they must first complete online learning modules before they are eligible to retake the exam.

Remember:

  • Collect copy of student’s schedule and signed/initialed registration checklist; collate with AP form and intake form collected on Day 1
  • Add any special/pertinent notes in LOCUS (you do not need to leave a note for each student)
  • Please separate freshman transfer credit applications from the other materials (intake form, schedule, AP form, checklist) uploaded to DocFinity!  Leave these in a pile on the island – we must submit those separately to Registration & Records.  Thank you.

Day 2 Drop-Ins:

Stephanie, Carrie, Amanda & Elizabeth

(two stay in Sullivan 260, two go to ALEKS testing site)

1:30-4:00 p.m.
